Our President

Roger Best, Ph.D. was appointed Interim President of the University of Central Missouri, effective Aug. 1, 2018. Known for his strong business acumen, leadership ability and commitment to students, Best joined UCM in August 1995 as an assistant professor of finance, and climbed the faculty ranks to become a professor in 2005. He was named Chair of the Department of Economics and Finance in 2003; Associate Dean of the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies in 2008; and college dean in 2010. Former President Chuck Ambrose named Best Interim Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration in August 2017, and he was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer following administrative restructuring in January 2018.

History

Founded in 1871 as a state normal school charged training teachers, UCM grown into a comprehensive state university with a diverse population of students. Throughout its evolution as Central Missouri State Teachers College, Central Missouri State College and Central Missouri State University, UCM has responded to the needs of modern society by providing graduates who are prepared in a variety of fields to become productive members of society.

Learning to a Greater Degree

Learning to a Greater Degree is the expression of the basic function of the University of Central Missouri, identifying the experiences students gain at UCM. Students are part of an educational experience that extends beyond the classroom, preparing them to excel in the fast-paced world of today and tomorrow.

Learning to a Greater Degrees defines who we are and what we do at UCM through the four reasons to believe:

  • Engaged Learning: students are provided with multiple opportunities to apply what they learn in the classroom through real-time, hands-on experience.
  • Future-Focused Academics: UCM’s academic programs prepare students to function is an ever-changing world with cutting-edge programs taught by innovative faculty.
  • Worldly Perspective: students learn by experiencing world cultures and traditions through traveling abroad and the diversity of the student population of the UCM campus.
  • Culture of Service-giving back to the community that supports them in so many ways is key to helping UCM student become well-rounded members of modern society.

The Board of Governors

The University of Central Missouri Board of Governors is made up of eight members appointed by the Governor of Missouri.
